What We Need To Succeed
WHAT I WILL BRING TO THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE
Through my work across our school system and the community, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from a diverse group of volunteers, including parents, HPS staff, and community leaders. I am aware of our current educational issues, including ongoing concerns of per pupil spending, social and emotional stressors, equity and inclusion, and building conditions. I have gained tremendous insight into our fiscal challenges, and I understand the importance of being good stewards of our shared resources and capital.
MY TOP 3 PRIORITIES AS A
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEMBER
1 Ensure that every student is ready for success in the science and technology world. The district has made great strides within our elementary STEM programs. I will advocate to improve our district goals by expanding and strengthening our secondary STEM programming.
2. Advocate for a cohesive Fine Arts Department by supporting the addition of a Fine Arts Director. I recognize that the arts are integral to all aspects of learning. I plan to support our district as we improve and expand our fine arts program, especially at the high school level. We need oversight and better coordination between our Arts teachers and other departments to ensure that all of our students have access to an arts curriculum that meets the Massachusetts new standards for arts.
3. I will work tirelessly to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity for success in the classroom. For those students who require support in order to meet the learning expectation we need to develop more programs that provide personalized learning. Our district has great MCAS scores but there are groups of students in the middle that require more specialized support. We need to prioritize the necessary support for those students. I would like to encourage higher expectations for students who are on 504 plans and IEPs to ensure that they have the opportunity to take more AP classes.
Experience Meets Opportunity
My experience and knowledge would enable me to smoothly transition into working collaboratively with fellow School Committee members, our Superintendent, and community leaders. Hingham public schools offer a great educational experience. I feel it is key to not only maintain but to improve the quality of the education we provide, and to keep our schools moving forward with focused long-term planning and measurable goals. I am prepared to put my experience to work serving Hingham and our children.
I would love to have your support and ask for your vote on Saturday, May 2.
